Circuit Description
In this 10-day Morocco desert trek and 4×4 circuit, you’ll explore the Moroccan south and the great Erg Chegaga dunes. The experience combines 5 days of trekking and 4 days in a 4×4 vehicle, starting from Marrakech and heading toward Zagora. You’ll travel on foot, by 4×4, and by camel, fully immersed in nomadic life. Discover breathtaking and ever-changing landscapes, with wild and peaceful campsites perfect for disconnecting.
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech
Upon arrival in Marrakech, we’ll pick you up from the airport or wherever you are and take you to your riad in the medina. Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 2: Guided Tour of Marrakech
After breakfast, a local guide will meet you at your riad for a visit to Marrakech’s main attractions: Bahia Palace, the Mellah (Jewish quarter), the Saadian Tombs, souks, and more. Afternoon is free. Overnight at the riad.
Day 3: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
After breakfast, depart your riad and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, passing Berber villages. Visit the 17th-century fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou. Continue to El Kelaa M’Gouna (City of Roses), then take the scenic route through the Valley of Roses to reach Dades Valley. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 4: Dades – Todgha Gorges – Tizi-n-Tzazert – Zagora – Lgatara
After breakfast, the trek and 4×4 desert circuit begins. Visit Todgha Gorges, then drive to Zagora via N’kob and desert villages. In the afternoon, meet your camel team and begin the trek. Spend your first night in a wild desert bivouac at Lgatara.
Day 5: Lgatara – Lbayad – Erg El Massafi
Continue your camel trek southward. Morning walk, followed by a lunch break in the shade. After resting, resume the hike for a few hours. Overnight in the dunes of Erg El Massafi.
Day 6: Erg El Massafi – Chantouf – Erg Laabidlya (Chegaga Desert)
Continue trekking into the heart of the Chegaga Desert. Walk to Dayat Chegaga, an area with massive dunes that bloom with greenery and flowers after the rainy season. Overnight in a nomad camp at the foot of the Chegaga dunes—the highest in southeast Morocco.
Day 7: Erg Laabidlya Chegaga
Begin the day’s trek deep into the Chegaga dunes, either on foot or camelback. Explore the vast Moroccan desert and its stunning scenery. Overnight in a bivouac at Khart El Garzim.
Day 8: Khart El Garzim – Ouad Laatache – Talahatin
Trek through the Bougarne dunes. Enjoy a full day of walking and discovery. Overnight in a nomad tent on dunes with beautiful views over El Bour.
Day 9: Talahatin – Bertam – M’Hamid – Zagora
After leaving El Bour, continue your morning trek across the Hamada of Drâa—a vast, rocky desert plateau. Return by afternoon to Oued Ben Hakki near M’Hamid, where you’ll be picked up and transferred by vehicle for an overnight stay in Ouarzazate, passing through the Draa Valley.
Day 10: Ouarzazate – Ounila Valley – Marrakech
After breakfast, head toward the scenic Ounila Valley and visit the kasbahs of Telouet. Arrive in Marrakech around midday. This marks the end of your trekking and 4×4 circuit. Transfer to the airport can be arranged the same day or the next.
Note:
This is a private tour, meaning only your group participates. Your driver can stop anywhere you like along the way. The itinerary is flexible and can be adjusted based on your travel plans.
