Departing from Fes, you’ll cross the Middle Atlas Mountains via Ifrane and Azrou, then admire the palm groves of the Ziz Valley before reaching the majestic dunes of Merzouga. Enjoy a sunset camel ride and spend an unforgettable night under the stars in a traditional desert bivouac.
The journey continues through the impressive Todra Gorges, desert plateaus, and lush oasis valleys to Ouarzazate. You’ll visit the legendary Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah before crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass to reach Marrakech. Morning departure from your riad in Fes towards Merzouga and the majestic sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. This 9-hour journey takes you through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the Tafilalet oasis region, filled with Berber villages, palm groves, and ancient kasbahs. Stops along the way include the alpine town of Ifrane and the cedar forest of Azrou to see wild monkeys. Lunch in Midelt. Continue through the panoramic Ziz Valley, a green ribbon through the desert. Arrive at the dunes of Erg Chebbi, where you’ll ride camels deep into the Sahara and spend the night in a Berber tent under the stars at a desert bivouac.
Watch the sunrise over the dunes, then return to your hotel by camel or 4x4 for breakfast and a shower. Depart for Ouarzazate via the impressive Todra Gorges (300m high), where you can take a peaceful walk and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing fortified villages and the rose-growing town of Kalaat M’Gouna. Drive through the scenic Dades Valley and the palm groves of Skoura, home to famous kasbahs like Amridil. Arrive in Ouarzazate in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
After breakfast, visit the cinema sets and studios in Ouarzazate, often referred to as Morocco’s Hollywood. Continue to Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a famous backdrop for films like Gladiator, Indiana Jones, and Lawrence of Arabia. Explore the fortified Berber architecture of the village. Then drive through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass with a scenic lunch stop along the way.
